June: monthly favourites

A monthly collection of tools, media, and links I found useful or interesting.

Apps, books, links, and other things I kept coming back to this month. Continuing the monthly format as a way to keep a record of what was actually useful at the time.

Kindle

I’ve always been someone who loves physical books, and I thought there was no chance I’d ever be able to read a book on a device. But since I got a Kindle, that completely changed. I’ve had it for 3 years now, and since then I’ve probably read only 2–3 physical books; everything else has been on Kindle. Sometimes I even have a physical copy of a book but still choose to read it on Kindle because it’s easier. It doesn’t strain my eyes and it’s very convenient.

ESR Digital Pencil (Find My Pen)

This is a digital pen I use for taking notes on the iPad. It’s great to use, the battery lasts a long time, and it feels like a great alternative to the expensive Apple Pencil.

TV shows

The Other Bennet Sister → An excellent series. I’ve always loved Jane Austen’s books, and this series perfectly portrays that world. Each episode is 30 minutes long, which was ideal for my short attention span.

Tools

Sanity→ A very simple CMS tool. Great for features like blogs. It’s convenient for clients who want to edit content themselves, and it has a solid free plan that’s more than enough for small websites.

Video Compress AI → an excellent tool for compressing videos without losing quality. It really helped me optimize and improve website performance.

Online Video Cutter (Crop Video) → another video editor, mostly useful for cropping videos so their size is smaller and they take up less storage on a site.

Blog posts

National Geographic – Sagrada Família article → a great article about the Sagrada Família, as well as the design of the blog post itself.

Caitlin McCarthy – Animated acrylic body horror project on It’s Nice That. An animated short exploring the strange and obsessive process of doing nails, blending body horror with everyday cosmetic routines.
